About me

Thank you for diving into my first blog.

I have lived in Africa since 1997, now married to a Dutch flower farmer, with two adorable daughters. I am a full-time mother, the most fulfilling job I have ever had. Before I left the UK I worked as a Specialist Investigator in London.

I took a career break to come to East Africa as a volunteer, for an NGO, MEDAIR, and spent a few months in the Democratic Republic of Congo, before relocating to Uganda.

I am a complete Francophile, loving both the language and the culture, spending time in France, at least twice a year. I recently completed a four-week immersion course at L’Institut de Français, in Villefranche sur Mer. It was the experience of a lifetime.

I love to listen to stories, to read, to travel and explore. I have a wicked laugh, and the best friends. If I had to choose one word to describe me, that word would be ‘passionate’. Capital ‘P’

I have a story to tell; this blog is primarily my journey, with all of its ups and downs, of the acquisition of the skills I need, to write it. On reflection, I have many stories to tell, which are unique and personal as all stories are.

I plan to post weekly on this blog.

As I have started the journey, I find I have to write about those issues which resonate with me, specifically Human Rights. I have created a separate page for those posts, which are my opinions, but are a starting point for you to consider your own, or to become an advocate and get involved.

At some future point I plan to share my writing on shereerosedewitte@wordpress.com

So now I am an aspiring writer, ready to dip my toes in….

    1. Thanks, Thom. Love the title of your blog, and the post about ‘Michael row the boat ashore..’
It instantly took me back to childhood days – I grew up in a pub and we had a juke-box. I remember the song very well, and it set me off reminiscing.
Looking forward to reading more from you
